OtterCares & OtterBox Award 2012 Entrepreneurial Scholarships

FORT COLLINS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As another school year comes to a close, the OtterCares® Foundation is proud to award the annual OtterBox® Entrepreneurial Scholarship to five worthy students. Created in 2007 to recognize and encourage entrepreneurial spirit among high school students in northern Colorado, the scholarship program has grown significantly from its first year and continues to influence the next generation of young entrepreneurs.

“This scholarship isn’t necessarily about a student’s GPA or more traditional academic achievements,” said Nancy Richardson, OtterCares Foundation President. “Instead we’re looking for those self-starters that really have a passion for life and a drive to succeed.”

All high school seniors from Poudre School District, located in Fort Collins, Colo., are eligible to apply for the $1000 scholarship. Recipients must attend a university, college, community college or technical school in Colorado the following school year. This year’s five winners represent a variety of fields of study and come from four different Poudre School District high schools.

Rylee Johnston, Rocky Mountain High School. Johnston will attend the University of Denver as part of their Pioneer Leadership Program and will pursue a pre-law course of study.

McKenzie Osborn, Fossil Ridge High School. Osborn will attend Colorado State University to study biology with plans to later attend medical school and become a pediatrician.

Emily Rosing, Fort Collins High School. Rosing will attend Colorado State University to study international development and nutrition in order to achieve her dream of fighting world hunger.

Kyle States, Centennial High School. States will be attending Front Range Community College to study natural resources.

Kaden Strand, Fort Collins High School. Strand will study engineering at Colorado State University and expand his passion for science and innovation.

“These students are amazing leaders in our community and truly exemplify entrepreneurialism,” said Curt Richardson, OtterBox founder and CEO. “We look forward to following their progress through school and learning about the impacts they will make on the world.”

The OtterBox Entrepreneurial Scholarship is available annually to Poudre School District high school seniors. Interested students can contact the Poudre School District Scholarship Coordinator for information about how to apply for next year’s scholarship.
