OtterBox on “A Journey of Hope” with Rich’s Ride

After a devastating fall from the roof of his home more than twenty years ago, Rich Dixon, a 60-year-old from Fort Collins, Colo., is now permanently paralyzed. Amazingly, paralyzed below his chest, Dixon is still capable of “cranking” more than 2,000 miles on a hand-powered bicycle each year. This year, he will journey 1,500 miles on, what he calls, “A Journey of Hope” to raise funds for Convoy of Hope®; OtterBox® will be along for the inspiring trip, as a sponsor, offering support and encouragement.

The ride will commence in Fargo, Minn. on Sept. 12th, 2011 and Dixon will travel along the Mississippi River to New Orleans, LA., an adventure lasting about eight weeks.

“Being able to support a cause like Rich’s Ride and Convoy of Hope is exactly what my wife Nancy and I have envisioned for OtterBox and our non-profit organization OtterCaresSM,” said OtterBox Founder and CEO Curt Richardson. “To be able to show the community support, as well as our commitment to the welfare of children, this ride is right up our alley. When I met Rich, I could feel his passion for this ride and the foundation he’s riding for. I couldn’t help but get excited as well!”

Convoy of Hope is an organization that provides nutritious meals for impoverished children. Founded in 1994, the Convoy of Hope has served over 45 million people around the world through international children’s feeding initiatives, community outreaches, disaster response and partner resourcing. Donations can be made with a pledge for each mile Dixon rides or directly to Convoy of Hope.

Join OtterBox and other sponsors including 1st National Bank, PVHS Foundation, Everitt Companies, Home State Bank, Spradley Barr Motors, McWhinney and Timberline Church by following the journey on Rich’s Ride blog or by getting directly involved.
