In a stunning turn of events, OtterBox® Founder and CEO Curt Richardson wore an ACTUAL tuxedo Thursday evening to accept his award as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Richardson, most often seen sporting rugged Carhartt apparel, transformed into a sharp dressed man for the occasion, much to the delight of his wife, Nancy Richardson. Son JC Richardson, also in attendance at the gala, could not recall ever having seen his father decked out in a tuxedo, guessing that the last time was likely when his parents were married more than 28 years ago. Nancy Richardson confirmed this statement as fact.
In a show of solidarity, OtterBox President Brian Thomas also ponied up for a penguin suit. The dapper duo were overheard discussing possible alterations to their new duds, including the addition of carpenter pockets for increased utility. Not to be outdressed, OtterBox CFO Kurt Hoven showed off his fashion sense in a finely cut suit.
The evening of fancy pants served as possible inspiration for new dress requirements at OtterBox as Richardson and Thomas pondered Black-Tie Tuesdays. While the tuxedos stole the show, the actual reason for the gala event was to announce and honor the Ernst & Young Entrepreneurs of the Year for the Mountain Desert region.
The selection process for this honor was rigorous, including an application, on-site interview and one-on-one interviews with the judging panel. Richardson’s leadership, dedication and innovation surly wowed the panel of experts at every turn, earning him the prestigious title of Entrepreneur of the Year. Next stop – Palm Springs, Calif. where the national competition will be held in November.
