Case manufacturer OtterBox® filed a broad-based complaint yesterday, Wednesday May 25, 2011, with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) against numerous Chinese and U.S. companies engaged in the manufacturing, importation and sale of protective cases for portable electronic devices that infringe the intellectual property rights of the Colorado company.

The ITC complaint claims these imported products violate the intellectual property of OtterBox which include utility patents, design patents and registered trademarks. The infringing cases are designed for mobile handheld technology such as smartphones, tablets and e-Reader devices and replicate the appearance and functionality of the highly popular OtterBox Defender Series® and Commuter Series® cases.

OtterBox has requested the ITC to issue orders to generally exclude all infringing products from entry into the United States as well as prohibit advertising, distribution and sale of these products within the United States. Orders will be administered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at all United States ports of entry.
