OtterBox Honored as One of the Fastest Growing Companies in the Nation

OtterBox® broke into the upper echelon of fast-growing companies this year, landing at No. 395 of the 2010 Inc. 500 list.

OtterBox saw revenue increase more than 744 percent from 2006 through 2009, gaining the Inc. Magazine recognition. Last year, OtterBox was honored on the Inc. 5000 list – coming in at No. 2,918 with 95.9 percent growth.

“Fast growth at any time is a big achievement; fast growth during the past few years is just short of miraculous,” said Inc. Magazine editor Jane Berentson. “The Inc. 500 consists of these just-short-of miraculous companies, the ones that through ingenuity and ambition have increased revenue, hired employees, and grown fast in difficult economic times.”

“We are definitely pleased to see OtterBox growing and it is an honor to have made the Inc. 500 list this year,” said OtterBox founder and CEO Curt Richardson. “More importantly, we’re focused on strategic growth to produce quality cases and create a positive, empowering work environment for our ever-expanding team of Otters.”

In its quest to protect smartphones the world over, OtterBox has been expanding at home and abroad. OtterBox now employs more than 200 people in Fort Collins, Colo. The company is building a new headquarter building in the historic downtown, remodeling several other facilities in the area and will soon triple the size of its warehouse with an expansion. Additionally, OtterBox opened its first international office in Cork, Ireland earlier this year.

For OtterBox, increasing revenue is more about giving back than growing profits. The company is dedicated to a number of causes in the local, national and international communities. In Northern Colorado, OtterBox supports the Food Bank for Larimer County, Partners Mentoring Youth and the Poudre Valley Hospital Foundation. Each year, two Fort Collins high school seniors are awarded with $1,000 OtterBox Entrepreneurial Scholarships. OtterBox is also a proud sponsor of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. Ten percent of the purchase price of the limited edition custom pink and white Commuter Series® "Strength" cases for BlackBerry® smartphones is donated to support finding a cure for breast cancer. To date, OtterBox has donated more than $45,000 in less than four months. The sponsorship runs through May 2011.

The company received numerous other honors during the past year for its growth and innovation, including a Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Business Ethics and ranked No. 1 in the Mercury 100 list of fastest growing companies in Northern Colorado compiled by the Northern Colorado Business Report.
