OtterBox “Partners” with Local Mentoring Organization

January is National Mentoring Month, providing OtterBox with an opportunity to promote a worthy cause and announce its 2010 sponsorship of the local organization, Partners Mentoring Youth. Introduced to Partners through the SuperStars Sports Challenge event last year, OtterBox employees really connected with the cause and so the company decided to participate on a larger scale in the coming year.

“The support that OtterBox gave in 2009 was tremendous and we are thrilled to now have this year long partnership with such a great company,” said Greg Soffe, Development Manager for Partners Mentoring Youth. “OtterBox is a fun group to work with and they have a genuine interest in making their community a better place. It’s just such a natural fit for our two organizations to come together and we have a lot to look forward to in 2010!”

A primary catalyst to OtterBox’s involvement with Partners Mentoring Youth came from one of its Business Development Executives, Shane Rabideau, who currently volunteers as a Senior Partner for 10-year-old Izayah. “I wanted to give back to the community and after exploring several options, being a youth mentor seemed to have the biggest impact,” said Rabideau of his decision to volunteer with the organization.

Partners Mentoring Youth provides various activities for partnerships to participate in throughout the year, ranging from community service to sporting events, or Izayah’s favorite, archery. Through these activities, Senior Partners not only provide a fun experience but also teach their Junior Partner important life skills like problem solving and budgeting.

Recently, several other OtterBox employees have signed-up to become Senior Partners and the rest of the company is looking forward to showing support through the sponsorship of Partners and their annual events including the upcoming Sharin ‘O’ the Green 5k Run/Walk to be held in Fort Collins, Colo. on March 13, 2010.

“Having a mentor gives Izayah and other Junior Partners a positive role model to push them toward their goals and dreams,” says Rabideau. “A tiny bit of your own time each week makes a big difference. It’s a no brainer.”
